My name is Daniel Broyles.
This is how I came to read the Bible, and why this website exists.
My story is secondary. This website is about Jesus Christ and Scripture.
My father was an Episcopal pastor, and my mother gave me an NIV Study Bible when I married. I never opened it. Before 2021 I had never opened a Bible, and I had little interest in religious conversations. I am not a pastor, a theologian, or a trained Bible teacher.
For more than 30 years, I raised capital for start-ups. On January 5, 2021, that life came to a halt. I was arrested for a white-collar offense. People were affected. I take responsibility. No excuses. No deflection. Only truth.
I spent about 48 hours in a local jail. At the request of the U.S. government, I was then transferred to an immigration detention facility in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico. I remained there nearly seven months, entirely in solitary confinement, without windows or television. Black mold covered the walls.
In all, there were eighteen transfers across two countries and five U.S. states. I moved through local jails, federal facilities, and immigration detention centers.
My wife later brought that same NIV Study Bible to me in detention. At first I opened it simply to survive the silence. I was not searching for revelation. She later sent several other books, but Scripture remained my primary reading.
I read the Bible about twelve hours a day for six months. Line by line. Page after page. Understanding came slowly, through repetition, silence, and time.
There was no lightning moment. No voice from heaven. This was a slow rebuilding. It changed how I understand Scripture, faith, prayer, and God. God did not abandon me in that place. He met me there.
I am not someone who studies the Bible all day anymore. The distractions of life are a real challenge for me, and my spiritual journey is ongoing.
I share this because it is true, not because I want to be the center of anything. This website is about Scripture and Jesus Christ. I encourage you to read the Bible for yourself.
